Menopause care FAQs

Questions about symptoms, consultations, treatment options, follow-up care, access in Alberta, and what makes this care model different.

This service is designed for women typically in their 40s to 60s who are experiencing changes related to perimenopause or menopause. It may be a good fit if you feel different but are not sure why, if you have been told your symptoms are “normal” but still want help, or if you want a clear, personalized plan rather than trial and error.

Your initial consultation is 45 minutes and is designed to give you time to be heard and understood. During your visit, your clinician will review your symptoms and health history, discuss how hormonal changes may be affecting you, answer your questions, and develop a personalized care plan. If appropriate, treatment options such as hormone therapy or lifestyle support will also be discussed.

Hormone therapy is considered safe and effective for many women when prescribed appropriately. Your clinician will review your medical history, assess your individual risk factors, and discuss the potential benefits and risks. Not everyone requires hormone therapy, and your care plan will always be tailored to what is safest and most appropriate for you.

In many cases, menopause can be assessed based on symptoms and health history alone. Blood tests may be recommended if your symptoms are unclear, if you are younger, or if there are other conditions that need to be ruled out. If testing is needed, your clinician will guide you on what is appropriate.

If treatment is recommended, prescriptions are sent directly to your preferred pharmacy. You can choose whichever pharmacy is most convenient for you, and your clinician will explain how to use your medication and what to expect.

Care is physician-led, and you may be seen by either a physician or a nurse practitioner depending on availability and your needs. All clinicians are trained in menopause care and follow a consistent, evidence-based approach.

Yes. Ongoing care is an important part of treatment. Follow-up appointments allow us to monitor your progress, adjust your treatment plan, and address any new concerns. Shorter check-ins may also be available if you need additional support between visits.

That is completely okay. Many patients come to us unsure of what is causing their symptoms or what options are available. Your consultation is designed to provide clarity and help you understand the next best steps for your situation.

No. Your consultation is an opportunity to better understand your symptoms and the options available to you. You can decide what feels right for you, and there is no obligation to start treatment.

At this time, medical care is available to patients located in Alberta. Non-clinical services such as health coaching and education may be available more broadly.

This service is focused specifically on menopause and midlife health. We take a more detailed, structured approach to understanding your symptoms, connecting hormonal, metabolic, and lifestyle factors, and providing a clear, personalized plan. Many patients find this allows for a more focused and supportive experience.

Appointment availability depends on demand, but we aim to offer timely access whenever possible. Joining the waitlist or booking early can help you secure a spot sooner.

Weight & metabolism FAQs

Questions about eligibility, medication, GLP-1 safety, timelines, subscription details, and how the program supports long-term change.

This is a clinician-led, ongoing care program designed to support weight loss in a structured and sustainable way. After enrolling, your clinician reviews your health history and goals, develops a personalized plan, recommends treatment options if appropriate, and provides follow-up and adjustments over time.

No. Medication is only recommended if it is clinically appropriate and aligned with your goals. Some patients benefit from prescription treatment, while others focus on lifestyle, nutrition, and behavioral strategies. Your plan is personalized.

GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide have been well studied and are considered safe and effective for many patients when prescribed appropriately. Your clinician will review your medical history, assess eligibility, and discuss the benefits and potential risks. These medications are not suitable for everyone.

Eligibility depends on several factors, including your medical history, current medications, weight-related health concerns, and overall risk profile. Your clinician will determine whether medication is appropriate after reviewing your assessment.

Results vary from person to person. Many patients experience meaningful weight loss over several months when following a structured plan. The focus is not just short-term weight loss, but sustainable long-term results.

After enrollment, your information is reviewed by a clinician. If appropriate, your treatment plan is finalized and any prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy. This process typically begins within a few days.

Your monthly program includes clinician-led care and oversight, personalized treatment planning, ongoing follow-ups and adjustments, and messaging support between visits. Medication costs are separate and depend on your pharmacy and coverage.

Yes. You can cancel your subscription in accordance with your plan’s terms. We recommend staying on the program long enough to see meaningful results, but you are not locked into a long-term commitment.

Dietician support may be available as an optional addition to your program. A dietician can help with personalized nutrition strategies, sustainable eating habits, and challenges such as cravings or consistency.

Side effects depend on the treatment plan. If medication is used, some patients may experience nausea, appetite changes, or digestive symptoms. Your clinician will guide you on what to expect and adjust your plan if needed.

This program is designed specifically for midlife weight changes and is guided by clinicians. Instead of focusing only on diet and exercise, it also addresses metabolism, hormonal influences, appetite regulation, and long-term sustainability

Many patients feel this way. Midlife weight changes are often driven by factors that are not fully addressed in traditional programs. This approach is designed to look more deeply and offer options that better align with how your body is changing.

Long-term success depends on several factors, including habits, lifestyle, and ongoing support. The goal of the program is to help you build a sustainable plan, not a temporary one

No. This program is for women experiencing weight changes in midlife, including those who have noticed gradual weight gain, are struggling to lose weight despite effort, or want medical guidance and support. Eligibility is based on your individual health profile.

No referral is required. You can start with the assessment and enroll directly if appropriate.

Sleep optimization FAQs

Questions about CBTi, virtual delivery, how the program works, timelines, medications, and when to start.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, or CBTi, is a structured, evidence-based approach to improving sleep. It focuses on identifying and changing thoughts and behaviors that interfere with sleep so your body can return to a more natural, consistent rhythm. CBTi is considered a first-line treatment for chronic insomnia.

Sleep medications typically work by temporarily suppressing symptoms. CBTi addresses underlying sleep patterns by improving habits and routines, resetting your sleep-wake cycle, and reducing anxiety or frustration around sleep. The goal is more lasting improvement without relying on medication alone.

This program is designed for women in midlife who are experiencing ongoing sleep difficulties such as trouble falling asleep, waking during the night, early morning waking, or feeling unrefreshed despite enough time in bed. It can be especially helpful if sleep has changed during perimenopause or menopause.

CBTi is typically delivered over several weeks. Many patients begin to notice improvement within a few weeks, with continued progress over time as sleep patterns stabilize. Consistency is important for the best results.

The Sleep Optimization Program includes an initial assessment, a personalized CBTi-based plan, structured sessions to guide you through each phase, and ongoing check-ins and adjustments.

Results vary, but many patients experience falling asleep more easily, fewer nighttime awakenings, more restorative sleep, and better daytime energy and function. The focus is on long-term improvement rather than quick fixes.

Yes. Sleep disruption during menopause is often influenced by hormonal changes, night sweats, and changes in sleep regulation. CBTi can still be very helpful and may work best when combined with broader support if needed.

CBTi does require active participation. You may be asked to track your sleep, adjust your schedule, and make gradual habit changes. These steps are introduced in a structured, manageable way with support throughout.

Many women who benefit from CBTi have already tried sleep hygiene advice, supplements, or medication. CBTi is different because it is structured, personalized, and designed to address the root causes of insomnia rather than only the symptoms.

CBTi is effective for many people, but not everyone responds the same way. If you are not seeing improvement, your clinician can review your progress, adjust your plan, and help determine whether additional support or a different approach is needed

Not necessarily. If you are currently using sleep medication, your clinician can guide you on how CBTi may fit alongside it or gradually replace it, depending on your situation

Yes. All sessions and support are delivered virtually, so you can access care from home.

The program is structured over a defined period, but additional follow-ups or support can be arranged if needed.

General sleep advice is often broad and not tailored. CBTi is structured, personalized, and evidence-based, with step-by-step guidance based on your specific sleep patterns and challenges.

If sleep problems are happening regularly and affecting your energy, mood, or daily function, it may be a good time to get support. Early intervention can often prevent sleep issues from becoming more persistent.
